Frequently Asked Questions

Watching your child struggle without clear answers can be both confusing and stressful. If your child is experiencing persistent challenges at school, at home, or in social settings, a neuropsychological evaluation can help bring clarity and direction.
A neuropsychological evaluation offers a comprehensive understanding of how your child learns, thinks, and processes information. By identifying your child’s unique pattern of strengths and challenges, the evaluation provides a clear, individualized roadmap for support. The ultimate goal is to translate insight into meaningful strategies that help your child succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

Signs It Might Be Time for an Evaluation
You may want to consider a comprehensive evaluation if you notice your child experiencing ongoing challenges in one or more of the following areas:
Academic and Learning Concerns
Works hard but continues to perform below grade level
Processes information or completes work more slowly than peers
Has difficulty understanding, retaining, or applying new information
Attention and Organization Challenges
Has trouble sustaining attention, is easily distracted, or frequently daydreams
Appears disorganized, struggles with planning, or has difficulty managing time, materials, or assignments
Emotional and Social Difficulties
Seems persistently anxious, irritable, or unhappy
Has difficulty making or maintaining friendships or feels uncomfortable in social situations
Other Important Considerations
Has a known medical condition (such as epilepsy, a seizure disorder, or a genetic condition) or a history of traumatic brain injury that may impact learning and development
May be gifted, and you are seeking guidance in identifying the most appropriate academic environment
Has been evaluated in the past and requires updated testing to monitor progress or refine intervention and support plans

An evaluation does more than identify areas of difficulty - it reveals your child’s unique strengths and learning profile. The results offer a comprehensive understanding of how your child thinks, learns, and behaves, helping to explain patterns in academic performance and everyday functioning.
With this clarity, we work collaboratively with families and schools to develop informed, practical recommendations and targeted interventions tailored to your child’s specific needs. The goal is to transform insight into meaningful support that promotes confidence, progress, and long-term success.

We understand that beginning an evaluation can feel overwhelming. Our process is designed to be thorough, supportive, and easy to navigate. Each evaluation follows three clearly defined steps:
1. Intake Session
We begin with a parent or guardian intake meeting. This session allows us to learn about your child’s developmental history, strengths, and challenges, and to better understand your concerns and goals. Prior to the meeting, you will receive a brief intake form to complete at home. We ask that you bring this form, along with any relevant records such as prior evaluations, IEPs or 504 plans, report cards, and state or standardized testing results.
2. Evaluation Sessions
The evaluation phase involves working directly with your child. Most evaluations take approximately 9–10 hours, typically spread over three to four sessions, depending on your child’s age and individual needs. During these sessions, your child will complete a variety of engaging tasks, including puzzles, games, academic activities, and computer-based exercises. Frequent breaks are built in to ensure your child remains comfortable and focused.
To gather a full picture of your child’s functioning, we may ask teachers, and in some cases your child, to complete brief questionnaires about everyday experiences at school and home. When appropriate, a school observation may also be conducted to better understand your child’s learning and social interactions in both structured and unstructured settings.
3. Feedback Session
Once the evaluation is complete, we meet with you to review the findings in detail. We explain what each assessment measured, what the results mean, and how they relate to your child’s academic, social, and emotional functioning. You will receive clear, practical, and individualized recommendations to support your child moving forward.
We encourage adolescents to participate in the feedback session so they can better understand their learning profile and be active partners in planning. For younger children, we provide developmentally appropriate feedback that is easy to understand and supportive.

Yes. Following the evaluation, you will receive a comprehensive written report, which is reviewed with you in detail during the feedback session.
The report includes:
A clear summary of your child’s results and any diagnostic findings
Prioritized, actionable recommendations for home and school
Practical next steps to help you focus on the interventions that will make the greatest impact
Our goal is to provide meaningful guidance that is clear, practical, and supportive—offering direction without unnecessary complexity or overwhelm.
-
A comprehensive evaluation can:
Clarify why your child is experiencing challenges and identify the most effective ways to support them
Reveal your child’s unique learning style, strengths, and areas for growth
Determine whether accommodations, specialized services, or alternative educational placements may be appropriate
Track progress over time and assess the effectiveness of current interventions
At NEST, we are more than evaluators - we are advocates for your child. We partner with families to help interpret findings, collaborate with schools, and coordinate meaningful supports. When needed, we connect families with trusted providers and encourage ongoing communication after the evaluation so we can continue to support your child’s growth and success.

Because every child is unique, the cost of an evaluation varies depending on your child’s specific needs and the type of assessment recommended. During the intake session, we will discuss the evaluation that we believe will be most appropriate for your child and review the associated fees in detail. You are also welcome to contact our office in advance for additional information or clarification regarding costs. Payment is expected at the time services are provided.
NEST is not currently in-network with any insurance companies. In some cases, we may be considered an out-of-network provider. We encourage families to contact their insurance carrier prior to the initial appointment to determine whether any portion of the evaluation may be eligible for reimbursement under out-of-network benefits.
We are happy to provide documentation to support insurance submissions when applicable. For families inquiring about coverage, commonly used procedural (CPT) codes for evaluations include:
